2026 Tilford ZEBRAS Academy

The Tilford Academy is a 38 week program designed for players to develop their skills and love for the game.

The program runs on a 9 week curriculum that cycles 4 times.

All sessions have game-based elements and are overseen by qualified coaches.

COACHES

David Smith

David “Smudger” Smith joins Clarence Zebras FC with a distinguished career in Tasmanian football. A long‑serving leader at Football Tasmania — including his role as Football Development Manager — David has shaped pathways for players and coaches across the state through his work in coach education, mentoring, and development programs.

Through Smudger’s Coaching, he continues to deliver high‑quality training and support for coaches at all levels, helping lift standards and strengthen the game from grassroots to advanced accreditation.

David’s experience also includes senior technical and coaching roles at club level, giving him a deep understanding of player development and football culture.

Clarence Zebras FC is proud to have such a respected educator, mentor, and champion of Tasmanian football looking after our Youth Tilford Zebras Academy.

Nick Taylor

Nick Taylor brings energy, expertise, and a proven development philosophy to the Clarence Zebras FC through his work with Showtime Football in southern Tasmania. Known for his technical knowledge and his ability to connect with young players, Nick has become a key figure in shaping the next generation of Zebras talent.

As the lead coach of the Junior Tilford Zebras Academy, Nick delivers high‑quality, age‑appropriate training that focuses on skill development, confidence, and a genuine love for the game. His sessions emphasise ball mastery, creativity, and strong fundamentals — all delivered in a positive, engaging environment that keeps young players motivated.

Nick’s 14 years of experience across junior development programs and his commitment to nurturing young footballers make him an invaluable part of the Clarence Zebras pathway. His work ensures that our youngest players receive the best possible start in their football journey.

Academy Breakdown

The curriculum focuses on 5 core skills:

Shooting

Structure

Work rate 

Possession

Information about the training program is sent to all parents and players. This keeps you up to date with what your child is doing in training and displays the structure of the program. 

The Academy program culminates in participation at cup competitions across the state. This gives the group a goal to work towards - somewhere they can show off the skills they have learned throughout the program.

ELIGIBILITY

At CZFC, we welcome and encourage all youth that want to take part our in academy training program.

Players who currently play for school teams are allowed to sign up and continue to play for their school teams.

Players that currently play for other clubs are unable to apply for our academy training as this can conflict with their current club’s play/training schedules. We do encourage those who are interested in our academy to sign up at CZFC to get the full benefits from our program.
